Help and advice regarding kindergarten

Hello
We are a new family in Berlin
I work and my partner takes care of our two children.
4.5 and 1.4 years old
We want to put the older son in kindergarten in August.
We received a voucher for 5/7 hours. It is not enough for the garden we want.
What can be done to increase the voucher to 7/9 hours?
I would be happy to help with this...
Thanks

Hello,
Maybe you should call the Kindergarten, could you choose one? Or do you have a voucher for a specific one? Maybe they let you pay for the 2 extra hours or there's another option. But I don't think anyone who doesn't know the internal processes in the kindergarten can help here.
Good luck

One of the options we thought of doing is. My wife might go learn German. Maybe someone tried to increase the voucher in this way?

Hi, I live in Hamburg. We also have the voucher system but details might differ. Here the hours a parent spends in Integrationskurs/German class are taken into account for the voucher indeed. Of course the schedule of the class and your working hours shouldn't overlap too much.

in our City you can "buy" more hours. But if the hours are too less, you might have to change the working-Scedule.
Some Kindergardens don´t offer longer times, so you only have the chance to speak directly with the person at the office that ist responsible for the vouchers or the allocation and perhaps can switch you to another Kindergarten that has a longer Scedule.

My husband starts one hour later and brings the Kids to the Kindergarten.
I start earlier, so I finish an 1PM so I can catch up the kids.
Many possibilities.

If it is only a voucher an money-Thing: -- go to the Kindergarden and pay the rest on yourself.

Due to the fact that one of you isn't working, in Berlin you are only entitled to a part-time placement.

To increase your hours on the Voucher you need to be eligible by either both of you working or attending a language course, further education, etc.
You may also be able to get a higher hours Voucher if you state that this is essential for your child learning German, but if the authorities agree may be questionable if you already have 7h a day covered.

I presume the Kita you want wants you full-time for financial reasons So if you are able to, you may ask them to pay the difference to a full-time place yourself though this may be costly, however as the rest is free in Berlin, maybe it's an Option.
